GETTING STARTED
Q: What is acupuncture?
A: Acupuncture is a time-tested, drug-free therapy that uses very thin, sterile needles placed at specific points on the body to support natural healing, reduce pain, and improve overall function and well-being.
Q: How does acupuncture work?
A: In Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture helps balance and restore healthy flow energy within the body. From a modern perspective, many people experience acupuncture as helping the body regulate pain, tension, stress response, and recovery.
Q: What can acupuncture help with?
A: Many people seek acupuncture for pain, stress, headaches, sleep issues, digestive concerns, hormonal or menstrual concerns, injury recovery, and overall wellness support. If you’re unsure whether your concern is a good fit, we can talk it through during a consultation.
Q: Do you offer a consultation before treatment?
A: Yes—consultations are available, and we also offer a complimentary consultation option on our website.
YOUR FIRST VISIT & WHAT TO EXPECT
Q: How long is the first appointment?
A: Initial visits typically last 30 to 90 minutes and include a detailed health history, an exam, and a personalized treatment plan.
Q: What happens during the first visit?
A: We’ll talk about your main concerns and overall health (sleep, stress, digestion, energy, activity, and more). Your practitioner may use traditional assessment tools such as tongue and pulse evaluation, then explain your recommended plan of care and timeline.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Wear loose, comfortable clothing. We often need access to areas like your arms below the elbows and legs below the knees.
Q: Should I eat before acupuncture?
A: Avoid a large meal right before your appointment. A light meal or snack beforehand is usually fine.
Q: What should I do after treatment?
A: For best results, avoid overexertion, alcohol, or recreational drugs for at least six hours after treatment, and follow any at-home recommendations you’re given.
COMFORT & SAFETY
Q: Does acupuncture hurt?
A: Most people feel little to no pain. You may notice a brief pinch, heaviness, warmth, tingling, or a dull ache—often described as a “good” sensation—then deep relaxation.
Q: Is acupuncture safe?
A: Yes, when performed by a trained professional using sterile, single-use needles. Needles are disposed of after one use, and the risk of infection is very low.
Q: Are there side effects?
A: Many people feel relaxed or pleasantly tired after treatment. Mild temporary soreness, redness, or a small bruise at a needle site can happen occasionally.
Q: I’m afraid of needles—can I still do acupuncture?
A: Absolutely. Acupuncture needles are much finer than hypodermic needles, and we can use gentle techniques. Tell us your comfort level—we’ll go at your pace.
TREATMENT RESULTS & FREQUENCY
Q: How many sessions will I need?
A: It depends on your goals, how long the issue has been present, and how your body responds. Some concerns improve quickly; others do best with a short series of treatments. We’ll discuss a realistic timeline after your first visit.
Q: How soon will I feel results?
A: Some people feel improvement after the first session; others notice changes over a few visits. Chronic or complex issues often take more time, especially if they’ve been present for months or years.
Q: How long do results last?
A: Results vary. Many people choose periodic “maintenance” visits for ongoing support, especially for stress, pain prevention, and wellness.
OTHER SERVICES USED WITH ACUPUNCTURE
Q: Do you use other Traditional Chinese Medicine therapies?
A: Sometimes, yes. Depending on your needs, your practitioner may recommend supportive therapies such as cupping, Gua Sha, moxibustion, and/or herbal recommendations as part of your plan.
SPECIAL SITUATIONS
Q: Can I get acupuncture if I’m pregnant or trying to conceive?
A: Often, yes—but we’ll tailor point selection and techniques appropriately. Please tell us if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or are trying to conceive.
Q: Can children or seniors receive acupuncture?
A: Yes. Treatment can be adapted for age, sensitivity, and comfort.
Q: What if I have a medical condition or take medications?
A: Please tell us about all conditions and medications/supplements you’re taking. Acupuncture is commonly used alongside conventional care, and coordination matters—especially for complex conditions.
PRACTICAL DETAILS
Q: Do you accept insurance?
A: Coverage varies by plan. If you plan to submit claims for reimbursement, we can provide appropriate documentation when applicable. Call us and we’ll help you understand your options.
